Sizing a ring is more involved than most people realize. Understanding the process helps you ask the right questions and know what a good result looks like.
Getting the size right
Fingers swell in heat and shrink in cold. We measure in the afternoon when possible and consider band width, since wide bands need a slightly larger size. If you have a large knuckle, we may suggest sizing beads instead of going up a full size.
Sizing down
A section is cut from the bottom of the shank, the ends are brought together and joined, then the ring is re-rounded and polished. With laser welding and matching alloy, the seam should be invisible.
Sizing up
The shank is cut and a matching piece of gold or platinum is added. Going up more than two sizes can thin the band, so we may suggest a half or full shank replacement for durability.
Rings that are difficult to size
Eternity bands, tension settings, rings with stones all around, and some tungsten or titanium rings cannot be sized conventionally. We will always tell you honestly what is possible.
